Kivunim is awakening the Jewish people’s historic relationship with the world’s vast array of different races, religions, and cultures.

The Jewish people have lived in more than 50 countries across the globe—often for over 1,000 years, and in some places for more than 2,000. This ongoing encounter with the “other” lies at the heart of the Jewish experience.

A meaningful Jewish education must engage that complexity—the tensions and the joys, the challenges and the triumphs—reflected in our texts and throughout our history. It must strengthen and refine our students’ perspectives, equipping them not only to understand the world as it is, but to help shape a brighter, more peaceful future.

At the same time, it must inspire and empower educators to create classrooms where difference and “otherness” become opportunities for bridge-building rather than the all-too-common construction of walls.

The Kivunim approach has been studied, analyzed, and endorsed by kings and scholars, politicians and artists, educators and alumni alike. The documents below offer a deeper look at Kivunim’s mission, our educational building blocks, our impact, and our vision for the future.
