ALUMNI GRANTS PROGRAM

Through the generosity of an imaginative and wonderful donor, KIVUNIM is excited to offer $5,000 grants to eligible KIVUNIM Gap-Year Program alumni for the 2022 calendar year!

The KIVUNIM alumni study confirmed the enormous and multi-faceted impact the KIVUNIM experience has had upon our alumni. This is the first step in the expansion of KIVUNIM beyond our gap-year experience. Now we can encourage the continuation of that experience by financially supporting short-term projects in the arts, music, history, social justice research and/or work, religious and spiritual life, journalism, ethnography, and the Jewish/”other” encounter, and/or another arena directly related to KIVUNIM’s unique curriculum and field experience.

Grants will be offered to many different initiatives, including but not limited to:

  • funding pro bono internships,

  • providing funds to help students with their college theses,

  • or other research projects, supporting passion projects, and more.

HOW TO APPLY:

To apply please submit a proposal description (not more than 2 pages in length) and include your anticipated expenses. Place your Last Name, First Name and KIVUNIM Year in the upper right corner of each page. Email your proposal to pgeffen@kivunim.org with the subject line: ALUMNI GRANT PROPOSAL.

Proposals, including budgets reflecting costs, should convey a clear sense of the project plan, and MUST be submitted by February 28, 2022.

Announcement of the 2022 awardees will be made by March 15th so as to enable summer projects for this year. The call for proposals for 2023 will go out in September 2022 with awards announced in December 2022.

Award recipients will be expected to discuss their project within and beyond KIVUNIM and to allow KIVUNIM to publicize and promote the project as well. We will work to connect the grant recipients with mentors in the KIVUNIM universe, or fellow alumni contacts who work in relevant fields or are knowledgeable about topics proposed. These mentorship opportunities will serve to enhance grantees’ projects, by providing individuals with advice and guidance.

The grants program is open to all alumni of KIVUNIM Gap-Year Programs, 2006 -2022.

*The selection process will involve reviews and recommendations by both fellow alumni, members of the KIVUNIM Advisory Board (e.g., Dr. Lewis Bernstein, David Broza, Dr. Ruth Calderon, Professor Susannah Heschel, Dr. John Ruskay, Dr. Anita Weiner) and other members of the extended KIVUNIM community.
